United Against Poverty is bringing awareness to the food insecurity many children face during the summer months with their Hunger Doesn’t Vacation campaign that is asking participants to volunteer for 10 hours, raise a minimum of $20 and collect 30 non-perishable food items for the Orlando UP Center, which serves low-income and working poor families. The Hunger Doesn’t Vacation effort kicks-off on Thursday, June 9 from 6–8pm in Baldwin Park at Enders Park Clubhouse; 947 Fern Avenue. There will be a cookout, games and fun that will include an “arCANtecture” contest to build a creative structure out of donated canned food items. Those who bring the most non-perishable food items will have the opportunity to do the “CANnonball Dive” into a pool of JELL-O!
